History and Principles
The Child Psychology Service was founded by Dr Emma Woodward. Emma is an experienced child psychologist and the mother of three (nearly four) lively boys.
She has a doctorate in Child, Educational and Community Psychology from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and an undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of Sussex (UK). Emma’s previous roles include working as a Practice Leader for the Ministry of Education and as an Educational Psychologist for Local Government in the UK.
Emma's underlying values regarding equality and inclusion are at the heart of The Child Psychology Service and the psychologist who work here. She has over twenty years experience working with children, young people, their families, schools and the wider community. Her passion lies in working with children, their families and schools to enable positive and lasting change.
She has worked with a wide range of children (aged 0-19) and their families and also many schools from pre-school to high school to provide specific support to address the key issues. Emma has a relaxed, child- centered and approachable style and links strengths based and solution-focused assessment with evidence based and practical interventions grounded in current research in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, and behavioural science.
